A.J., 45, male
Hormones, Hypertension, Cholesterol, Chronic fatigue, and Kidney Disease

Despite looking great on the outside, A.J. was falling apart internally. He struggled with hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and low testosterone. We discovered multiple hidden issues that once addressed, returned A.J. to his active life with that familiar spring in his step.

When I first visited Dr. Huber in 2010 I was suffering from chronic fatigue, and I would wake in the morning after 6 to 9 hours of sleep feeling desperately tired. It was so bad in the morning that my body felt like a heavy lead weight. I was in no way unfit, I am 46 years old and weigh 175 pounds and hold 2 black belts in different forms of Karate.

A sleep clinic told me I had sleep apnea so I tried CPAP for 3 months and it made matters worse.

I made an appointment to see Dr. Huber and my initial test results confirmed that I had many vital levels that were way out of balance and ultimately contributing to adrenal fatigue. I was prescribed a number of herbal supplements to reverse the problems.

"Dr. Huber actually promised me that he would cure me from this debilitating ailment (Sleep Apnea) and that I would feel far better in a short period of time. I felt that was a guarantee that could only be made by someone with extreme confidence and ability in what they practice. No one had ever given me guarantees like that before.

Within 3 months I had actually experienced what waking up feeling refreshed actually feels like. It was amazing to say the least. The heavy weight feeling was replaced with new strength and stamina. After 6 months of treatment all my vital levels were well within tolerances. I was able to resume 3 Cross-fit sessions a week and am now the strongest I have ever been.

I was also diagnosed with some food intolerances that are now being addressed and will also be reversed.

The staff is simply fantastic. They really care and fully understand what you are going through. They actually spend the time to listen to you and then spend the right amount of time explaining what the problem is and how they will address it. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a new lease of life and feel strong, relaxed and healthy.

Annette, 36, female
PCOS, Depression, Obesity, GERD, Pre-Diabetic

Annette is a 36 year old female who felt like a prisoner in her disease of poly cystic ovarian syndrome, with obesity, daily heartburn and depression. She lost over 100 pounds, reversed ALL of her problems, got rid of her antidepressant and 2 other medications and reclaimed her life.

“Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)held me prisoner in my own body for most of my adult life. Obesity, acne, unwanted hair and depression- these are the symptoms I thought I would never overcome. I felt certain diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease were an inevitable part of my future. As a nurse practitioner I attended a medical conference in 2011 and found myself sitting in a lecture given by Dr. Gary Huber on PCOS. His message was different than anything I had heard on the subject matter. Instead of promoting prescription medications as the crux of treatment he was championing diet, exercise and alternative therapies. I listened with doubt but also with curiosity. Could it be that the mainstream treatment I had subscribed to since I was 18-years-old was partly responsible for my continued problems? My first appointment with Dr. Huber left me cautiously optimistic. I was primed for a major lifestyle change: ready to lose weight, get off my prescription medications, increase my activity and radically change my way of eating. That was May 11th, 2011.

Today it is April 5th, 2012. I have been following the recommendations of Dr. Huber and as a result here is what I have lost: 73 pounds, four pant sizes, hunger and cravings, exhaustion, all prescription medications and depression. Here is what I have gained: confidence, energy, passion for healthy living and elevated mood. One year ago I would not have been able to imagine myself as the woman I am today. As a carb-addicted, exhausted and discontented person I felt trapped in my own body and my own life. I have worked hard. But if I can do it, ANYONE can do it! Embracing a new way of thinking about PCOS has most surely saved me from a future of diabetes, heart disease, depression and obesity. Dr. Huber and the staff at Huber Personalized Medicine have directed me and helped me to meet my goals. But I am not done yet! I will lose a total of 100 pounds and at least 2 more pant sizes. I will continue to eat clean and supplement. I will exercise regularly. I will enjoy my new health, my new body and my new outlook on life!

Lynn, 68, female
Metabolic Syndrome, High cholesterol, High blood pressure, Hypothyroid, Chronic Fatigue, Constipation, Heartburn, Menopause.

Lynn arrived with a host of chronic issues. She had spent her life accomplishing amazing results, high energy, creative and a game changer. Now she found herself struggling on a daily basis just to get out of bed and push past the pain. With the committed focus of the true tiger that she is she dedicated to making some consistent changes in her lifestyle and rapidly reclaiming her life. The smile is back, the energy returned and the tiger is once again starting to run.

“I am an Executive who ran her own business for 13 years before merging with another organization. Currently I am running a division of that company.

I have been in various stages of unhealthy since 1993 (undiagnosed). In the last five years the symptoms have steadily increased, coming to a crisis point in December 2014. A friend insisted that I see Dr. Huber. Following is a description of my issues:

  • Chronic cough that interfered with living a normal life. It got worse the more tired I became and the only thing that took it away (or controlled it) was to sleep.

  • Extreme fatigue – not the kind of fatigue you can work through. I had no idea on any given day how much energy I would have for that day. Once the energy was gone the cough became uncontrollable and my body couldn’t cope. Sleep was my only option. Sometimes that fatigue occurred as early as 9:30am. Never could I shower, put on the make up, wash hair and get dressed and go to client meetings. My available energy allowed for only one of those options so I would have to shower on days I didn’t have many meetings.

  • My gums were red and sore – brushing my teeth was painful. My poor dentist tried every mouthwash (prescription) and many other things but nothing worked.

  • My intestines didn’t work right so managing my bowels because a full time job. I would have to get up very early to insure that I could deal with my bowels and still get to clients on time.

  • My body pain was extreme. Each morning I would have to sit on the side of my bed to try to get up the courage to walk to the bathroom. It was painful to straighten my hips; it hurt to put weight on my feet, etc.

  • Lethargy was hard to fight because it hurt to do almost anything. Yet I had a full time job to accomplish.

My 92 year old mother could walk farther, accomplish more, move better, and needed fewer naps than I did. I was really beginning to wonder how much longer I could live that way. The possibility of a fruitful, normal future was disappearing and hopelessness was an unwelcome companion.

"I saw Dr. Huber for the first time on April 24, 2015. He listened well to all my issues and seemed confident in the approach he wanted me to take. That confidence was hope producing for me. I felt determined to simply do what he said to do. I was started on some supplements with instructions to stop eating foods that were causing me trouble (all grains). Chelsea helped make that practical for me so that I could succeed."

It is August 30, 2015... only four months since first seeing Dr. Huber. My life is very different! My body pain is virtually gone. I wake up in the morning and get out of bed without any pain. My energy is back to normal levels. I can shower and get ready and still do a full 8-10 hour work day. The lethargy is gone and I am beginning to add fun back into my life. (In the past there was not enough energy for fun and my job. It has been over 10 years since “fun” even sounded “fun”.) The chronic cough that had plagued me for years was gone within 3 weeks of my first visit to Dr. Huber. My dentist is shocked at the health of my gums and tongue. My intestines are working more normally and will continue to improve.

I have hope now of a normal life. I am full of joy and excited about each new day. I have things to look forward to because I now have the stamina and ability to do them. I can take care of my great nieces and nephews and keep up with them. I can plan a vacation and actually look forward to going. I have been given my life back. How can you thank someone enough for that??

Bill, 58, male
Metabolic Syndrome, weight loss, and life change.

Bill came to us stating that he did not expect to be alive in 2 years as his health was going downhill rapidly. Despite numerous medications his cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar were out of control. In just 10 weeks he lost 49 pounds, came off all of his medication, discovered new energy, better sleep and sex drive and is saving more than $3,000 every year based on his new lifestyle.

See Penny, she has a whole letter that Bill wrote that needs to be transcribed into this testimonial “Dr. Huber, I wanted to take a moment and thank you and your entire staff, specifically yourself and Penny Krebs on what has been...

Andrew, 4, male
Impulse Control with ADD Behavior.

Andrew’s teacher requested that Mom take Andrew to the doctor for medication as he was overly disruptive in class. After just two weeks of dietary changes that same teacher thanked Mom for helping and asked her what medication was being used to cause such a dramatic change. "None" replied Mom.

“My 4 year old son’s pre-K teacher sent me a recent email stating he had impulse control issues, troubling focusing, and had trouble staying on task. She suggested that he be evaluated by his pediatrician. I did not want to take him to his pediatrician for fear they would want to “medicate” him. I immediately consulted Dr. Huber. He asked me to make a list of what my son’s diet consisted of. How many fruits and vegetables he was getting. I listed on average what he ate during a 1 week period. Little did I know he was getting way too much sugar. I thought 100% natural fruit juice was healthy. Dr. Huber advised me making some dietary changes and work with his dietitian to help make this transition easy. In less than 2 weeks he was a totally different child. His teacher told me how “calm” he was. We can go places and he is not being disruptive. He can sit still for a longer period of time. He is less intense and just seems happier. The difference in his whole personality completely changed. Thank you so much Dr. Huber for protecting my son’s future!”

Andy, 70, male
Heart Disease, Acid Reflux, Low Testosterone, & Chronic IBS (Diarrhea)

Andy was referred to us by his cardiologist for weight loss to reduce cardiac risk. We also uncovered that he had low testosterone and food allergies, which we treated to improve his heart function. We resolved his diarrhea and IBS within 2 weeks, and helped him reach his goal weight.

“My initial weight of 198lbs. was a major health concern said my heart doctor, Dr. Dean Kereiakes of Christ Hospital. He suggested seeing Dr. Gary Huber. and I began about 5 months ago. I was having difficulty bending forward (weight exerted pressure on my chest) and I was very uncomfortable and it had affected my personal thoughts of how was I going to get well and return to my desired weight? I tried Weight Watchers and could not develop the interest prior to seeing Dr. Huber and his personalized program. [The staff] assisted and guided me from day one and I could not have accomplished my goal of 170lbs without them. They provided me individual attention, encouragement, monitoring and tests and the results came from all of their efforts.

I will be forever grateful to all the fine people at Huber Personalized Medicine for their kindness and assistance in achieving my goal of 170lbs. Now I have entered a maintenance program to stay at the current level.
With kindest regards,

Andy

Daniel, 57, male
Lap-Band Surgery that Failed Him, Obesity and Joint Pain

Daniel spent thousands of dollars on an elective surgical procedure, and initially the Lap-Band helped him lose weight but without proper lifestyle even that device failed him and he regained the weight. The Huber Personalized Weight Loss Program helped him lose more than 80 pounds and more importantly he is keeping it off thru proper education and lifestyle.

I turned 30 years old and it aggravated me to acknowledge I couldn’t eat whenever and whatever I wanted anymore. I hated that if I ate when and what I wanted I piled on mega unwanted pounds. So I started trying diets and I mean all of them! Diets that were advertised on television or radio, diet pills, diets of urban legend, diets guaranteed through the internet underground of un-keepable promises. I even resorted to surgery to lose weight but nothing consistently worked and certainly no diet had endured. Lose 25 pounds but put 35 or more back on when I could no longer stand the small amount of food associated with the latest diet trend.

“I turned from surgery and diets to changing my eating habits with Dr. Huber’s program. Dr. Huber gave me no guarantees, promises or magic elixirs; but it did give me the physician supervised and dietitian coordinated weight management plan of how to change my life style of food choices. Upon working the personalized plan with Dr. Huber and his staff it has delivered. It is not free and it takes effort but isn’t that the price of anything we have achieved in life that is worthwhile?”

Daniel
57 years old - 365 Days into his personalized program having lost 80.5 pounds.

Ken, 45, male
Morbidly Obese, High Blood Pressure, High Blood Sugar and Insulin (Pre-Diabetic)

Ken weighed 501 pounds at 45 years old, and with 4 kids he was concerned he wouldn’t be alive to see them grow up. He lost more than 200 pounds in 9 months and is still losing. His depression lifted, his blood pressure and sugar normalized, his energy went thru the roof, and his whole life changed.

“I tried not to ever think of myself as being an overweight person. Always prided myself over the years for being able to do the same things that normal people do while I was so overweight. I was in denial for years and years. The weight I carried was taking an awful toll on my body. When I finally did come around to seeing the truth, I was well over 400 lbs. By then it was another four or five years of mental anguish, struggling with the guilt and helpless feelings about what I had let myself become.

I always thought that I had a long hard road ahead of me if I ever wanted to be a normal person again. I thought that I was not physically or mentally prepared to do what I needed to do to get the weight off of me. But I was wrong!

First of all, I was oblivious to the things that were causing me to gain weight. All of the things that made my diet were the real problem. In January of this year, I was weighing in at around 507, I can’t remember. What I do remember was the transition from being helpless to being empowered. Once I was taught about all the causes of my weight gain and started acting on changing the things I was learning, it was not hard at all.

Since the second week of January I have lost about 160 lbs. I didn’t take long (about 6 1/2 months so far) and it was not the hard road I thought it was going to be. Simply changing what I ate and a little exercise, common sense things that Dr. Huber has taught me, I feel more alive than I have in years.” This has started the ball rolling for me and I feel like I can continue on and lose the rest of the weight I need to –no problem. It’s good to have an ally that understands what I am doing. Thank you.

Linda B., 75, female
High Blood Pressure, Esophageal Reflux, Obesity, High Cholesterol, Fatigue, Arthritis and multiple medications.

Linda stated quite simply “I don’t want to die fat”. She was on multiple medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure and acid reflux that were creating unwanted side effects. She felt miserable at 206 pounds which created poor sleep, achy joints, fatigue and depression. Linda was able to change her life and get rid of a lot of medication as she redefined her life. She reinvented herself at 75 years of age.

“A number of months ago after my 75th birthday, I decided I did not want to be a little, fat, unhealthy, old grandmother and that Dr. Huber was my last chance to accomplish that dream. Over the months I have lost 57 pounds with the help and enormous encouragement from ALL the staff members of LMI. They are all knowledgeable and extremely kind. Dr. Huber did not accept my excuses when I gained a pound and that was exactly what I needed – clear guidance. I am now comfortably able to consume lots of water daily. I understand but am still learning “food management”. I walk for a half hour to an hour every day and that with the weight loss has been easier to accomplish. I feel as I did at 30 years of age. I’m full of energy, my arthritis is much improved and I no longer take medication for my high blood pressure nor stomach ulcer. The minor health problems I experienced during the months were immediately dealt with by Dr. Huber. Nothing was too big or too minor for his attention. I am constantly told by friends, family and casual acquaintances how much better and younger I look. I like myself now and I could not have managed without the help of Dr. Huber and all of his staff.

Athlete (rower) optimizing his performance.

Cole is an amazing young athlete with tremendous potential. Cole was already the best rower in the city when he came to see me. But like many top athletes he wasn't content with good he wanted greatness. He wanted to get that last 5 to 10% of his potential to emerge so we worked to remove old diet myths and focused on his nutrition and recovery strategies. His focus and desire resulted in obtaining a full scholarship to Yale and being asked to join the U.S. National Rowing Team. Cole is an amazing young man that I feel blessed to have worked with.

“With the help of Dr. Huber’s personalized approach to athletic performance and overall wellness I have been able to soar to new heights as an athlete that I never previously anticipated. His council helped me to jump from the high school level of performance onto the collegiate and eventually international level.”

Melinda, 44, female
Migraines for 30 years now GONE, and bio-identical hormones to address perimenopause.

Melinda had suffered from horrible migraines for more than 30 years before coming to us. They were a significant problem that greatly reduced the quality and flow of her life. She was able to change her diet and stabilize her hormones resulting in complete resolution of her migraines.

“I am a woman in my 40’s who has had migraine headaches since elementary school. A typical migraine for me would start with spots in my vision that would last for about 20 minutes. I would then start to feel the pain of the headache and about 20 minutes after the pain would start I would start with vomiting. Other symptoms included unorganized thoughts and sensitivity to light and sound. Up until my hysterectomy I had at age 40 I would get these headaches in different intervals. Sometimes I could go 6 months to a year and then sometimes I would have two or three of them in a weeks time and then go for months without having one. Over the years I have found medications to help with the symptoms, but never anything to make the migraines not come on in the first place. Four days after the hysterectomy I started to get the headaches every other day to every 3 days and sometimes 6 to 7 days in between. Along with the migraines I had other symptoms going on when I was not having a migraine. These included my thinking to be unclear most of the time, I would get light headed often, and I could not focus on more than one thing at a time like I use to be able to do. As well as these symptoms I had a sick feeling in my stomach the majority of the time and my vision always seemed to look like in was only two dimensional. I was miserable for months and months and felt as if I would go crazy. I tried going to my regular doctors and they could not help me with them. They tried synthetic hormones and they just made everything worse and still did not help with the migraine pattern I was stuck in.

At this point my husband had found Dr. Huber and this saved my quality of life. It took a while, but it started with eating healthy foods and getting the right supplements into my body. I also started bio identical hormone replacement therapy, which I think has made the most difference with the migraines. I was tested to see what my levels were and we went from there. At first we started with a low dose and worked our way up. I started with patches and had to move to creams since the patch dose would not go high enough. I could see some improvement when I started counting the intervals of migraines in weeks instead of days and now I am counting them in months and going on one year in April of 2012. I think I can safely say that for the first time in my life I am a migraine free person!

I would strongly recommend anyone who is having migraines to get your hormone levels check out and to seek help from a professional who knows what they are doing with hormone replacement therapy. I of course would strongly recommend Dr. Huber since he has done such a wonderful job working with me to figure out what my individual system needed. It may take a few months to work out what another person’s personal symptoms are but it is well worth your time and effort to try it.

Sincerely, A happy healthy migraine free person!

Maggie, 48, female
Obesity, Insulin Resistance, High Blood Pressure, Depression and Joint Pain

Maggie lost 75 pounds and overhauled her life. She was able to take control of many issues in her life secondary to taking control of her lifestyle. The discipline and self-respect she regained translated to success in other areas of her life. She was able to shed medication while controlling her blood pressure with lifestyle and weight loss.

“I came in with high blood pressure, depression, lack of exercise, poor eating habits, irrational behavior, emotional and this took a huge toll on my relationships. Now my blood pressure averages 110/64. No blood pressure meds, always active, running and walking 6 miles every day, light weights and jumping rope daily 1000(x). I’m not emotional, energy level has vastly improved and relationships on the mend.

I am just so grateful for Dr. Gary Huber and his staff. They have given me my life back. I fell like I have been let out of jail. I love the weekly accountability and this program gives you a variety of food choices in comparison to the HCG program.”

Bill – 62, male
Lost 49 pounds in less than 4 months

“I have been in the program for 3 weeks. I have lost 19 pounds and 2 inches. After the first 19 days of the program I was able to wear a suit to church that I had not worn for 2 years. I was wearing size 50 and the suit was a size 48. That was such an encouragement to me to keep going on. The staff is wonderful and is so encouraging. They are always looking for ways to make the program enjoyable.”

Nancy, 60, female
Obesity

Nancy has lost 40 pounds and is still dropping. She reduced her need for medication to lower her blood pressure.

After 12 weeks on the program, my CRP inflammation number was cut in half. My blood pressure medication has been reduced to half of the dose it was, and I’m confident that I will be able to discontinue this medication in the near future.

Jane, 45, female
Obesity, Migraines

Nancy has lost 40 pounds and is still dropping. She reduced her need for medication to lower her blood pressure.

“I began with Dr. Huber and his team in September 2013. After looking at summer vacation photos and wondering how did I get to be that big, something had to give. I began with a great deal of apprehension. I had failed Weight Watchers more times than I cared to admit. I could lose 20 pounds – but I needed to lose serious weight. At 244 pounds, I was fat, tired, having migraines, hot flashes, no energy for anything – and blaming a lot of it on myself and the fact that I was probably entering the beginning stages of menopause and there was nothing I could do about that. However, I had to do something – I was entirely too young to feel this tired and I certainly was not going to buy pants another size up.

As someone who was “addicted” to salty snacks – pretzels, crackers, cheese, buttery/salted popcorn, and who cooked meat and potato-type meals, I was not sure if this would work for me. However, it did and it does. I learned what I was eating was making me fat and ultimately, make me feel old and tired. The saying you are what you eat has really rung true with me. I cut out the junk and followed the program and the weight started coming off, and I started feeling better. A few weeks in, I started exercising using my Wii Fit. I could do that – low impact and it got me moving and motivated because my Mii character kept reminding me I was obese and sighed almost every time I stepped on the Wii board. By Thanksgiving, my migraines were all but gone, the hot flashes had stopped, and I was sleeping better than I had in months. Speaking of Thanksgiving...I cheated – my first real cheat day. I ate one plate of food and was stuffed. It had been years since I stopped at one plate on Thanksgiving. The best news, I still lost weight that week. I gave myself permission to have that day – enjoy with no guilt, but get back on the program the next day and keep going – and I did. I no longer call this a program, but a way of life. Do I indulge in any of the “forbiddens” – yes. However, I now know why I gained weight, what I need to eat to be healthy, and how to stay motivated. I have lost 70 pounds since September, and love how I feel.

As I said earlier, I had hot flashes, was tired, migraines, and no energy to do much of anything but sit and read at the end of the day. I was taking up to nine migraine pills over the course of 30 days – all I was allowed to have by insurance. Every month I had to have it refilled. Since these changes I made in September, I have refilled my prescription twice. The migraines I experience now are hormonal. I think they were made worse and more frequent because of the food I was eating. The hot flashes I experienced are not gone completely, but I am not waking up overheated and feeling suffocated. My snoring has all but stopped – for which my husband is grateful.

The best part of this experience – I have energy. I exercise at least four days a week. Nothing too hard, but enough to break a sweat and get my heart going, all in the comfort of my home or neighborhood. When I started exercising, I thought everything was going to hurt – my knees, hips, feet...After playing soccer for the better part of 20 years, my knees, and hips hurt. Once I changed my diet – the aches went away. That is the most amazing thing to me. What I was feeding myself was making me ache. I did not realize it until it was explained to me that what I was eating was making my joints ache and the change in diet has proved it.

A few weeks ago, we were watching AFV and there was a rather large woman in a ridiculous situation. I watched thinking that was me last year – and prayed to myself I was more graceful than the person I was watching. As if he was reading my mind, my son said, “I know why you lost all that weight – you didn’t want to become like that lady.” Bless him, because I was that lady. I am grateful to Penny Krebs for being my cheerleader and having faith in me throughout this change. She made it extremely easy and always was there with the answers. I have the tools to be successful to take a few more pounds off or at least maintain this weight and not go back to that fluffy lumpy person I still sometimes see in the mirror.

Brock – 54 year old male
Obesity, high cholesterol, low testosterone, Metabolic Syndrome, food allergies (unknown prior to start).

Brock is a busy executive who is very successful at business but not successful in managing his body or his health. He was obese with bad lab numbers that all but guaranteed that a heart attack was awaited him in the near future. He engaged in our Platinum One-Year Health Program and dropped 70 pounds in 6 months and completely reversed his vascular disease risk. He also discovered that his testosterone was low due to years of stress and had also developed food allergies.

Medical Case Study

Brock is a typical businessman who dedicates himself to his career but in the process loses sight of simple habits that would keep him safe from chronic inflammatory disease. He eroded into a state high cholesterol with poor blood sugar control. This cvombined with his gradual weight gain led to Metabolic Syndrome, a combination of weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure elevation. People with Metabolic Syndrome have a 4 fold higher risk for heart attack and stroke.

Brock was unaware of his low testosterone state. Testosterone has a dramatic impact on heart health, cholesterol management and blood sugar. Low levels greatly increase risk for Metabolic Syndrome and often goes undetected as sex drive and performance do not always become an issue until the levels are extremely low. Long before it drops to extreme levels it can be impacting other health issues. Brocks testosterone was 215 and the calculated bioavailable fraction was a mere 37. To give you perspective a healthy testosterone level is greater than 500 with a bioavailable fraction above 120 (his was 37).

Food allergies are common and often go undetected in states of low testosterone and Metabolic Syndrome. Allergies and sensitivities can cause joint pain, headache, low energy, indigestion and other symptoms that all too often get chalked up to “you’re just getting older”. Identified and treated, food allergy resolution leads to better sleep, clearer head, improved energy, better digestion, reduction in overall body ache and pain syndromes, lower blood pressure and a dramatic reduction in heart disease risk.

Treatment

Brock engaged our Virtuoso Health Program that is designed specifically to reverse Metabolic Syndrome, lose weight and restore overall health at every level. His diet was assessed and redefined to reduce inflammatory foods and gradually rebuild his diet towards a whole foods, low allergen, low sugar diet that is full of robust flavors, spices, seasonings and restorative food choices to rebuild his ailing cells.

Exercise, meditation and education were addressed on a weekly basis in a gradually progressive curriculum designed to take reprogram Brocks daily habits in easy steps that do not over complicate his life. This has to be "livable" if it is to be sustainable.

Lab tests were drawn at regular intervals to mark progress and uncover problems such as the low testosterone and food allergies. Many of the cardiovascular tests done to define his cholesterol and cardiac inflammatory picture had never been done by his primary care doctor in the past. This was the first time he was able to uncovered the depths of his heart risk.

Result

After 6 months in the program Brock has enjoyed tremendous strides in his health and daily function. His starting weight was 337#, he is now at 265 and his goal of 220. All areas of his daily existence have improved from his sleep, to how his body feels and moves as well as his energy and cognition. The single most amazing change is his reduction in the area of cardiovascular risk. Lets explore that further.

Lets review the true risk factors for heart disease and heart attacks in particular. The number of LDL particles you have and the size of those particles is far more predictive of risk than your simple total cholesterol of LDL. So these markers get special recognition for their significance in assess overall risk. A healthy LDL-P number is less than 1000 and at the start of the program Brocks was 2455. Couple that with the small size of his paricles and the risk multiplies. Now add an elevated CRP which is a marker of how inflammaed the blood vessels are. The higher the CRP the faster you form plaque in your blood vessels and the sooner you heart attack arrives. Make no mistake . . . its coming. For a guy like Brock it is not a matter of whether he will have a bad event, its simply a matter of which vascular catastrophe will arrive first, the heart attack or the stroke?

Over view of Brocks numbers at the beginning

Starting Numbers The Healthy goal
LDL-P = 2455 less than 1000
small-LDL-P = 1315 less than 527
Size of the LDL = 20.3 greater than 20.5
LDL = 158 less than 100
HDL = 32 greater than 50
LDL/HDL ratio = 4:1 2:1 or lower
CRP = 4.75 less than 1
Hgb-A1C = 5.8 less than 5.5
Testosterone = 215 greater than 500

Every single one of these markers is a risk for heart and vascular disease and EVERY single one of them is significantly abnormal. This is what a heart attack looks like.

Brock engaged in a complete and comprehensive lifestyle adjustment that was applied in slow gradual steps. Everything related to his health was addressed: Sleep, stress, hormones, nutrition, exercise, education, mindset, cooking class, meditation, reading material, motivational guidance, weekly support and more all spelled out in simple, step by step gradually progressive steps. To change your life you need to make small manageable steps that aren’t threatening. It needs to address every aspect of your daily activity but delivered over time enjoying small victories along the way. Most importantly you need to change the way you think and what you believe.

After 6 months, here is what Brock accomplished:
Lost just over 70 pounds. His starting weight was 337 and he is now at 265 with a goal of 220. He is just 45 pounds away from his goal and has accomplished 60% of his weight loss goal in just 6 months. Losing more than 70 pounds in 6 months may sound heroic but this is our typical average. Our program averages 10.5 pounds of weight loss per month. Brocks results are typical and expected.

His lab change was dramatic:

Starting Numbers Current Numbers
LDL-P = 2455 1518, he has dropped this by nearly 1000 points.
small-LDL-P = 1315 607, he cut this number by more than 50%
Size of the LDL = 20.3 20.6, it is now in the preferred range above 20.5
LDL = 158 108, a 50 point drop
HDL = 32 49, a healthy rise of 53%
LDL/HDL ratio = 4:1 2:1, the ideal healthy range
CRP = 4.75 1.0 reflecting a dramatic drop in vascular inflammation
Hgb-A1C = 5.8 no retest at this time
Testosterone = 215 1023. Corrective therapy was employed, no use of testosterone, and his body is not making this on its own.

What do you think his heart attack risk is now? As an emergency medicine physician of 20 years, having stood bedside for more heart attacks than I care to recall, I can tell you that this profile represents a guy who truly never has to anticipate having a heart attack. He literally stepped off the tracks and rerouted his life in a direction that doesn't accept vascular disease, heart attack or stroke as a realistic expectation. He went from absolutely headed toward heart disease to a position that represents healing and recovery and provided he continues his path does not live in fear of this bad outcome. And we aren’t done yet. He has another 45 pounds that will only further reduce his risk.

Brock accomplished this without taking any blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, heart drugs, or diabetic medication. He did this with mindset, better choices and lifestyle. If you talk to him he was not hungry throughout the process, he had plenty to eat, his energy went through the roof, he is sleeping better and his mood is more calm and happy. He simply decided to take control of his life and dictate to the world what was acceptable instead of being a victim.
